La stampante Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8585 PRO utilizza la tecnologia di stampa laser monocromatica per offrire diverse funzioni. La macchina può stampare, copiare, scansionare, inviare, archiviare e, come opzione, inviare fax. La memoria interna standard è di 3,0 GB di RAM. Il disco rigido ha invece una capacità standard di 250 GB e una capacità massima di 1 TB. È inoltre dotata di un processore Canon Dual Custom per le funzioni condivise.

Il display di questa macchina Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 8585 PRO è un display a cristalli liquidi (LCD) TFT da 10.4 pollici con pannello tattile a colori SVGA. Il dispositivo può inoltre collegarsi tramite un protocollo di rete standard 10/100/1000Base-T o Base-TX e tramite LAN wireless IEEE802.11 b/g/n. La Near Field Communication (NFC) è disponibile come opzione. Sono inoltre supportati i protocolli USB standard, comprese le versioni 2.0 e 3.0 per host e dispositivo.

La capacità di alimentazione standard dipende dal vassoio carta utilizzato. Il dispositivo dispone, ad esempio, di due vassoi di alimentazione, ciascuno con capacità di 1500 fogli. Ha inoltre altri due vassoi, ciascuno in grado di contenere 550 fogli. Il vassoio multiuso può contenere 100 fogli con una grammatura media di 80 gsm.
